Tributes to ‘fabulous and influential’ Bewdley Dr Rebecca Shand

TRIBUTES have poured in for a ‘fabulous and influential’ Bewdley doctor who has died following a battle with motor neurone disease.

Dr Rebecca Shand began her medical career in 1999 and joined Bewdley Medical Centre in 2004, first as a salaried GP and later as a partner.

She has been credited with being instrumental in guiding the centre through the Covid pandemic.

Dr Shand had been battling motor neurone disease for the past two years.

Bewdley Medical Centre shared the news of Dr Shand’s passing on Facebook.

The statement read: “It is with great sadness that we wanted to share the news with our patients of the passing of Dr Rebecca Shand, following a courageous two year battle with motor neurone disease.




“She will be deeply missed, not only as an exceptional clinician but also as a valued colleague whose kindness and professionalism touched so many lives.

“She was passionate about improving palliative care locally and was proud to develop our service into the leading practice in the county for this.


“Her steady leadership and compassion were instrumental in guiding the practice through the challenges of the Covid pandemic and many demanding years that followed.

“A devoted mother, wife, and doctor, Dr Shand leaves behind a legacy of care, integrity, and humanity. May she rest in peace.”

Many of Dr Strand’s loved ones and former patients also paid tribute to her.

People fondly remembered her ‘contagious smile’ while others said that Dr Shand was the only GP she should ever really connect with.

One described her as a fabulous and influential woman who would be much missed.

Another said she was a wonderful doctor who cared deeply about her patients.

Another added: “I’m really saddened to read this.

“Her kind but determined approach is something I will never forget.

“I am thinking of her family and friends at a really sad time.”

Former colleagues also shared their tributes to Dr Shand.

One said: “She was a fantastic lady, doctor and a colleague who I had the pleasure of working with.

“She was a beautiful lady inside and out and will be forever missed.”
