PRIVATE renters in Wyre Forest have received the biggest price hike in Worcestershire over the past year, which could see them pay over £800 more in 2026 compared to 2025.
Figures by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) reveal that private rents were an average of £862 in per month in Wyre Forest in January 2026.
This represented an annual increase of 9.1 per cent compared to January 2025, when average rents in the district were £790 a month.
This was the highest percentage increase in private rent in Worcestershire during that time.
On average, private renters are paying £72 more a month than they were last year- another county-wide high.
If rents stay at this rate throughout 2026, then private renters in Wyre Forest could pay £864 more this year compared to 2025.
By contrast, Bromsgrove’s average private rent price rose 2.5 per cent over the past 12 months, while in Redditch rent prices stayed the same.
Wychavon only recorded a 1.9 per cent increase in private rent prices between January 2025 and January 2026.
In the Malvern Hills, they recorded a 7.8 per cent average rise in monthly rent, while Worcester renters had to pay an average of 4.9 per cent more a month.
However, renters in Wyre Forest still have the lowest average prices in Worcestershire, £32 a month lower than Redditch, which was the next cheapest place to rent.
Across the West Midlands, the average monthly rent was £962, up from £912 a year earlier, which represents a 5.48 per cent increase.
Prices breakdown
In Wyre Forest, the average rent for terraced properties rose by 9.3 per cent over the past 12 months, while for detached properties, it increased by 8.4 per cent.
Average rent for one-bed properties rose by 9.5 per cent, while the average price for four-or-more bed properties rose by 8.1 per cent.
One-bedroom homes cost £609 a month to rent on average, while two-bedroom flats cost £774, three-bedroom properties cost £936, and four or more bedrooms cost £1,303.
New laws
In the Government’s renters rights act, which comes into effect on May 1, landlords can only put the rent up once per year.
In addition, should they wish to put the rent up, they must give at least two months notice to the tenant.
