THE KIDDERMINSTER community has rallied together to fundraise for a meningitis charity after ‘exceptional’ local teenager Aaron died from the illness.
Aaron Mills, aged 18, was at home from studying in Liverpool, enjoying a family Christmas, when he began feeling run-down and woke up with a headache on December 30.
He was given paracetamol and went back to bed, but minutes later, his dad, Anthony and mum Deniz discovered he was having a seizure with ambulance staff immediately suspecting meningitis, and he passed away on January 3.
Following his tragic passing, the Aaron Love Mills Forever Fund has been created with the aim being to raise cash for charity Meningitis Now.
A special web page has been created for people wanting to raise cash in Aaron’s memory to list their fundraising event on.
Earlier this month, staff at Kirsty’s Little Treasures nursery took on a charity walk with some of their children, during which they raised over £1,500 for Meningitis Now.
Josh Pritchard, whose sister was friends with Aaron, will be running at least 10 lots of 5km during March to raise cash for the same charity.
Another local man, William Fallows, is running the Brighton Marathon on April 12 in Aaron’s memory and has already raised more than £300 towards Meningitis Now.
The beautiful game is also being used to pay tribute to Aaron, who was a massive Liverpool Football Club fan.
A charity match in memory of Aaron will take place at 2pm on Saturday, May 16, at Stourport Swifts FC.
And in September, Shaun McEntee will be running around 100 miles over five days, from Kidderminster Harriers’ Aggborough Stadium to Anfield Stadium, the home of Aaron’s beloved Liverpool.
Aaron’s father, Anthony, is trying to raise awareness for Meningitis B, a strain of the virus that was not covered in the vaccine his son received when he was younger.
Last week, Anthony met with Wyre Forest MP Mark Garnier with the ultimate aim to meet with Health Secretary Wes Streeting to try and provide information directly to students – about the different strains of meningitis – before they start their university courses.
