Sons of Rest Pavilion at Kidderminster's Brinton Park taking shape

NEW images have been released of the Sons of Rest Pavilion as construction begins to take shape.

The snaps of the project in Kidderminster’s Brinton Park have been shared on Facebook as the roof was put on the new building and the scaffolding was taken down.

The new pavilion is being created sensitively to reflect the heritage of the original one.

It will offer improved community facilities, including a new cafe space, terrace, ornamental pond and landscaping.

A post on the Brinton Park Facebook page said: “With roof tiles now in place, the scaffolding has come down, revealing the building as it continues to come to life. The new pavilion is really starting to take shape.”

Residents who use the park were full of praise for the new look of the pavilion.

One said: “It’s going to look lovely and will enhance the park.”

Another said the pavilion would be a good asset for the community. Due to serious structural problems, the original building was demolished.

Built in 1938, the original Sons of Rest pavilion had been damaged beyond repair by badgers living in the park.

They have now been successfully rehomed in a new artificial sett elsewhere within the park.

Work to construct a replacement Sons of Rest Pavilion was given the go-ahead by Wyre Forest District Council’s planning committee in September, and work began on the construction the following month.

The new pavilion is part of a £3million plan to improve Brinton Park.

The project is funded by £2.4million from the National Lottery Heritage Fund and £460,000 from Wyre Forest District Council’s Evergreen Fund and is aimed at enhancing amenities, protecting local wildlife and celebrating the park’s rich heritage.

Coun Ian Hardiman, Wyre Forest District Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure, Arts and Community Safety, said: “The new pavilion will provide a significant focal point in the park where people can meet for a coffee and a chat, as well as take part in a range of community-based activities organised and promoted by the council.”
