Youngsters' planting helps transform Kidderminster's Brinton Park

Kidderminster Editorial 7th Apr, 2026

STUDENTS from Kidderminster’s Sutton Park Primary School have been helping transform the town’s Brinton Park, writes Chinaza Eke.

Members of the school’s council joined forces with contractors McPhillips to plant periwinkles around the new ornamental pool, contributing hands-on to the park’s ongoing improvement project.

Brinton Park’s Splashpad will reopen on May 1 and will then be open daily from 11am to 5pm.

Wyre Forest District Council said the overall project continued to progress well.

The roof of the new pavilion is now almost complete and the ornamental pool is taking shape. The new ornamental bridge is due to be installed within the coming weeks.

The refurbishment of the men’s and women’s toilets are also ongoing and a new one-way entry and exit system for the car park is also in progress.

Coun Ian Hardiman, Wyre Forest District Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure, Arts and Community Safety, said the funding was exactly the kind of investment the town deserved.

“It’s wonderful to see the next generation connecting with Brinton Park and playing their own part in its story.

“The children from Sutton Park Primary have shown fantastic enthusiasm, and these plants will be a lasting reminder for them of their involvement.

“The transformation of Brinton Park is really starting to come to life. The new pavilion is rapidly taking shape, and it won’t be long before residents and visitors can enjoy a coffee in the new cafe with views over the new ornamental pool.”

Dana Redmond, contracts manager for McPhillips, added it was lovely to see the Sutton Park Primary School children involved.

“Their hard work and hands on approach is set to help bring to life Wyre Forest District Council’s colourful and vibrant vision for the park that will benefit them and their families for many years to come.”

Wyre Forest District Council is making the improvements with McPhillips Ltd, supported by £2.4million from The National Lottery Fund and The National Lottery Community Fund.
