A TALENTED Bewdley boy, who has mastered solving the Rubik’s Cube, smashed his target in a unique fundraiser for the charity that saved his granddad’s life.
George Andrews, 10, set himself the challenge of completing the taxing task in under three minutes to raise funds for the Midlands Air Ambulance (MAA), and he broadcast his attempt live on Facebook on Easter Monday.
And the youngster absolutely smashed his target, completing the Rubik’s Cube in just 67 seconds.
George originally hoped to raise £500 for the cause, but has exceeded that target, too, raising £675 so far.
George was ably assisted by his brother Alfie, who will be the ‘tech guy’, filming the event as Alfie got to work solving the Rubik’s Cube.
The MAA is a cause close to George’s heart, as medics from the helicopter service saved his granddad Spike following a motorbike crash.
Mum Tara and dad Mike said: “”We were absolutely blown away – George completed the challenge in just 67 seconds.
Raising over £600 for Midlands Air Ambulance is just incredible.
“We are incredibly proud of him.
“He set himself a goal, worked so hard, and seeing him achieve it (and enjoy every moment) was just amazing.
“The support from everyone has meant the world to him and Alfie – it’s really kept them going and smiling through everything.
“The fundraising page is open until April 30, so if anyone would like to continue supporting George and Alfie’s efforts, it would mean the world.
“George and Alfie have even made a deal with their dad – if they reach £800, they earn a well-deserved pizza.
“Thank you so much to everyone who has supported them so far.”
The cash has been generated through donations and a raffle run in conjunction with the challenge.
Prizes include a £50 Amazon voucher, £25 Roblox voucher and £10 to spend at The Garden Kitchen in Bewdley.
There will also be some toys up for grabs, donated by Damien from Smyths Toys in Kidderminster.
This is not the first fundraiser the boys have done, previously raising £1,000 for Birmingham Children’s Hospital, £280 for Bewdley’s All Saints Church, £100 for Great Ormond Street Hospital, £150 for Worcestershire’s Neo Natal Unit and £350 for the Home Ed Community.
