Bewdley Medical Centre improvements planned amid ‘pressure’

MAJOR improvement works are set to take place at Bewdley Medical Centre to help ease ‘continuing pressure’ on the practice.

The work, which will take place in early May, will see three new clinical rooms installed at the medical centre.

The cash will also be used to create three new administrative offices, as well as a dedicated phlebotomy room, which will be used specifically for medical procedures that involve drawing blood from a vein, such as diagnostic tests or blood donations.

The medical centre was successful in applying for funding to improve the building.

It is anticipated that the works will take place over three to four weeks and will be finished in time for the summer.

A spokesperson for Bewdley Medical Centre said: “We are excited to let our patients know about the upcoming improvement works to the surgery.

“We were successful in applying for funding to improve the building, helping us to provide improved care for our community and manage the continuing pressure on the practice.

“We thank you for your patience while this work is underway.”

The spokesperson added the work would have a limited impact on the general day-to-day running of the medical centre.

A spokesperson for Wyre Forest Health Partnership, which operates the five medical centres in the area, including Bewdley, told the Standard back in January that general practice services are under enormous pressure, and demand for appointments has never been higher.

Bewdley Medical Centre is rated Good by the Care Quality Commission, following its latest report.

It has a patient list size of approximately 15,000 people.
