Kidderminster 'geek' shop ends specultation by announcing closure

Ryan Smith 2nd May, 2026

A GAMING shop and events hub in Kidderminster has closed for good after weeks of speculation.

Geek Retreat, which has been operating out of its store on Worcester Street, announced via a statement on Facebook it had closed for the final time.

Geek Retreat had not been open for several weeks, fuelling speculation the shop would not be reopening.

One worried customer went to Geek Retreat’s Dudley branch to ask questions. He said he was told the Kidderminster branch would not be reopening.

And, last week, Geek Retreat staff confirmed the closure in a statement.

It read: “Thank you to everyone who has reached out to us over the past couple of weeks.

“We apologise for not getting back to you, but we would like to confirm a few things.

“We can confirm that Geek Retreat Kidderminster is now closed.

“We’d like to thank our staff for all their hard work, our communities for their support over the years, and our volunteers for their time and effort.

“We appreciate each and every one of you.

“Please know that our friends at Geek Retreat Birmingham and Geek Retreat Dudley will be happy to welcome you to their stores.”

Geek Retreat was a shop, gaming café and events hub, dedicated to everything in the world of geek culture, including comics, merchandise and games such as Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh.

It would regularly host trading card game tournaments and other events.
