MIU and pharmacy times in Kidderminster this May Day bank holiday

Tristan Harris 3rd May, 2026

PEOPLE are being urged to make sure they get the right treatment over the May Day bank holiday weekend.

The minor injury unit (MIU) at Kidderminster Hospital and Treatment Centre will be open from 8am to 10pm every day, including bank holiday Monday, and x-ray services will be available between 9am and 5pm tomorrow (Saturday) and on Sunday and Monday.

People are urged to go to the MIU for minor injuries, rather than to A&E department at Redditch’s Alexandra Hospital or the Worcestershire Royal.

Waiting times are often shorter at the MIU and patients can be seen a lot quicker.

MIUs are open throughout weekends and bank holidays, treating injuries such as sprains, simple fractures, cuts, burns, minor head injuries and wound infections.

Using the local MIU, when appropriate, helps reduce waiting times and keeps emergency departments free for more serious cases.

Pharmacies also offer expert confidential advice for minor incidents and illnesses as well as medicines for a range of minor ailments.

On the May Day bank holiday Monday, the Tesco pharmacy on Castle Road will be open from 10am to 4pm and the Boots at Weavers Wharf will be open between 10.30am and 4.30pm.

People can visit 111.nhs.uk or can call 111 to get advice from trained NHS staff, including signposting to the best service to meet their healthcare needs.
