'Stourport Vision' - Group formed to map out town's future

Ryan Smith 9th May, 2026

A GROUP has been formed to help deliver an exciting new plan detailing how Stourport-on-Severn should look in the future.

The Stourport Vision Steering Group has been formed and tasked with taking action to help make Stourport a vibrant, welcoming place that celebrates its unique rivers, canals and industrial heritage while adapting to meet modern needs.

The group is set to hold its first meeting this month.

Following the publication of the Stourport Vision, the town council invited a range of people from local businesses, community groups and partner organisations to attend a stakeholder session where people could share their thoughts on the plans.

More than 1,100 people have helped with the ‘Vision For The Future’ document, which sets out how the town will look and feel over the next decade. It balances ambition with consideration and respect for what makes Stourport special.

The vision emerged from comprehensive community consultations carried out in the town last year, with residents, businesses and visitors contributing more than 12,000 comments through surveys, face-to-face meetings and workshops.

People told the town council they loved Stourport’s waterways, green spaces, heritage and strong community spirit. They want to see these protected and celebrated.

They also identified clear priorities for improvement – tackling traffic congestion, upgrading infrastructure, bringing more variety to the town centre and improving public facilities.

The vision responds to both, setting out an ambition for Stourport to become a vibrant, attractive and tranquil town which welcomes residents, visitors and businesses.

It also outlines how Stourport will be a distinctive destination recognised as a great place to visit with something for everyone and a place of choice for living and working, embracing both home working and commuter needs.

And finally, the vision states Stourport needs to become a leading heritage destination celebrating its unique waterways and industrial past.
