Ex policewoman Sharon Harvey is new Bewdley town mayor

Ryan Smith 13th May, 2026

BEWDLEY Town Council has elected former policewoman Coun Sharon Harvey as its new mayor.

In her Mayoral role, Coun Harvey, who replaces Coun Nicole Harper after her Civic year ended, will be representing and supporting the town at a wide range of functions, including charity, community, and formal events.

She was elected as an independent councillor in 2023 and has actively served as part of Bewdley Town Council, chairing various committees before becoming Mayor.

The Mayor has chosen to support Bewdley Dementia Support Group, St George’s Hall, Pets as Therapy and Wyre Horseways as her charities.

Bewdley Dementia Support Group was founded by Coun Harvey in 2024 and became a registered charity in November 2025.

The charity helps carers, aids those with dementia, and promotes community awareness and education.

She said: “My priorities are serving the community by encouraging business, supporting the voluntary sector, and advancing conservation and environmental schemes.”

Originally from Smethwick, Coun Harvey has lived in Bewdley for 26 years.

She holds a Degree in Education and Psychology from the Open University and a teaching qualification.

She has served as a police officer for 25 years in various ranks and roles, and in her final Home Office role, she was named in the RAF New Year’s Honours list.

After retiring from the police, she worked as a registrar for marriages, a Women’s Royal Voluntary Service welfare officer, and Severn Valley Railway’s education and commercial manager, as well as taking on a variety of volunteer roles.

Coun Emily Bourne, who is currently the chair of the Bewdley Carnival Committee as well as a District Councillor, was elected as Deputy Mayor.
