DETAILS have been revealed for this year’s Stourport Carnival walking parade.
A date for Stourport Carnival has been set for Saturday, September 5, between midday and 8pm, after months of speculation about the event’s future.
A call has now been made for local businesses, community groups, clubs, schools, groups of friends and residents to take part in the walking parade.
For 2026, the parade will be walking only, with no trailers or vehicles set to feature this year.
The parade will leave Memorial Park on Lower Lickhill Road at midday on carnival day, travelling along Lower Lickhill Road, onto the High Street, down New Street, along Martins Way, and finishing at the Riverside.
The future of the carnival was thrown into doubt back in January after the Stourport Carnival Society voted to dissolve itself, citing a lack of nominations to fulfil the key roles needed to keep things running.
The news sparked an outcry on social media, with people seeking ways to save the carnival.
This led to Stourport Town Council announcing that it would take responsibility for running the carnival, and an appeal was put out for volunteers.
Organisers at the town council have promised something different for this year’s event.
A spokesperson for Stourport Town Council said: “This is the Town Council’s first year organising the event, so we’re keeping things a bit more scaled back while we get started.
“We’d still love to see as many people as possible getting involved in the walking parade and bringing colour, energy and community spirit to the day.
“We’d love this to be a real community celebration- so gather your group, plan your outfits, bring your banners, and come and be part of it.”
The Stourport Carnival was first held in 1925 and has typically taken place on the first Saturday of September each year.
Last year’s carnival, which marked the 100th anniversary of the event, saw thousands attend as guests were treated to two river parades, a fun-filled land parade, live entertainment and a firework display.
