Coun Tim Berry, Stourport-on-Severn Town Mayor, writes for the Standard.
SINCE being elected at the annual meeting of Stourport-on-Severn Town Council on May 12, it’s been a very busy start to my year as mayor – and an enjoyable one at that.
I’m particularly pleased to be supporting two wonderful charities this year – Forest Dog Rescue and Leapgate Activity Centre.
I recently had the chance to visit Forest Dog Rescue, where I saw first-hand the fantastic work they do and met some very lovable dogs along the way.
If you’re thinking about bringing a dog into your home, I’d strongly encourage you to consider contacting them.
Behind the scenes, preparations are already well underway for a packed calendar of events to support these causes.
Our office team is also hard at work organising some of the town’s biggest highlights, including the carnival on September 5 and the Three Kings Parade and the Christmas lights switch-on later in November.
Events of this scale simply wouldn’t be possible without the incredible support of our local community and volunteers.
If you are able to lend a hand, we would love to hear from you email: [email protected] for more information.
Civic events

A key part of my role as mayor is attending civic events across Worcestershire, many of which raise funds for local charities chosen by fellow mayors.
Our Deputy Mayor, Coun Paul Harrison, has also been representing the town at a number of engagements, including recent mayor-making ceremonies in Ludlow and Bromsgrove.
I was honoured to attend the Mayor’s Sunday Service in Kidderminster.
That said, some of my favourite occasions are those right here in our own community.
It was a pleasure to attend Stourport Forward’s AGM recently – a fantastic organisation doing important work to preserve and celebrate the heritage of our town.
If you are organising a community event and would like the mayor to attend, please do get in touch with my office.
Finally, I’m keen to hear directly from residents about any issues that matter to you.
I will soon be confirming dates for my regular monthly surgeries, so please keep an eye on Stourport Town Council’s website and Facebook page for details.
I look forward to meeting many of you over the coming months.
