SWIMATHON - Kidderminster nursery youngsters take part in pool fundraiser

Kidderminster Editorial 6th Jul, 2026

YOUNG swimmers from Little Trinity Nursery in Kidderminster have made an amazing contribution to Holy Trinity School’s Swimathon 2026, writes Anna Hunt.

The children showed even the smallest swimmers could make a big impact.

The youngsters, who are aged just three and four, completed 601 widths between them during their weekly swimming lessons.

Each child achieved at least 20 widths each time with some managing 26.

Nursery manager Gaynor Carter said everyone was incredibly proud of the children, adding each week they saw first hand the difference swimming made – building confidence and teaching vital water skills and helping children develop from an early age.

“Taking part in the Swimathon has been a fantastic way for them to challenge themselves while supporting a facility that means so much to them.”

The Swimathon brought all the pupils from reception to year nine together, along with staff and community users.

The fundraising will support essential upgrades the pool needs, including a new heating system, improved flooring and cubicles and vital equipment which is part of a wider £200,000 refurbishment project to secure the pool’s future.

Swimming teacher, Paula Crocker, added The Swimathon encouraged every child to push themselves, swimming as many widths as they could within their lesson time.

“It’s been incredible to see Little Trinity Nursery, and all children, demonstrate their determination and enthusiasm.

“The support has been fantastic, and it’s wonderful to see everyone coming together to make a real difference.”

Gaynor added swimming was such an important life skill, especially with families wanting to more time around water during the heatwaves and summer months.

“Supporting this fundraiser is about ensuring children in our community continue to have access to a safe, high-quality pool environment where they can learn to swim.”

The Swimathon has already attracted strong backing with Holy Trinity Fundraisers giving £5 per child who participate, along with support from Wyre Forest Swimming Pool Club and local schools.

The initial target of £5,000 and a overall larger goal, organisers are now rallying for the wider community to get involved with the fundraising page that will be launched in September.

Paula said: “So many children and families across generations have learned to swim here. It is amazing to see our swimming community come together to help transform this facility for everyone.”
