STAFF and players at Wyre Forest Hockey Club (WFHC) are celebrating after it was named the 2025/26 ‘Emerging Club of the Year’ by England Hockey, writes Anna Hunt.
The club has been recognised for its outstanding growth, inclusive culture and commitment to developing hockey within the area.
WFHC was founded in 2018 and was built on a vision to create a welcoming, supportive environment where hockey was accessible to all.
The club said it understood life and its demands so allowed flexibility for its members which helped ensure everyone always had their chance to play.
It added it was a remarkable achievement for the club and testament to the dedication and passion of members, juniors, committee, umpires, volunteers and parents.
WFHC now fields two ladies’ teams and a flourishing youth academy, which was founded in 2025.
It has also been successful at encouraging people to play hockey as 95 per cent of its young players had never picked up a hockey stick before joining.
The past season was a breakout year as the club has grown into a thriving multi-generational community with high-quality coaching and expanding membership. Club
Chair RJ said: “Winning England Hockey’s Emerging Club of the Year is an incredible honour for everyone at WFHC.
“It reflects the hard work and enthusiasm of our members, volunteers, coaches, parents and supporters.
“We are proud of the welcoming culture we have built and excited to keep growing the game in our community.
“Our active social calendar and informal meet-ups ensure everyone connected to the club feels part of our hockey family.”
And he vowed there was ‘so much more to come’.
“This is just the beginning.”
To encourage new players and get more women involved in the sport, WFHC is running a free sessions throughout August.
