Mikron Theatre bringing its new FREE show to Kidderminster's Springfield Park

THE NATION’S most prolific touring theatre company, the Mikron, will perform one of its newest 2026 productions in Kidderminster, writes Seren Mathews.

Top of the Wold – Tales from a mobile library will be visiting Springfield Park. The show will take place from 6.30pm to 8.30pm on August 6.

No tickets are required though, as a ‘pay what you feel’ collection will be taken after the show.

Top of the Wold aims to inspire all audiences to enjoy the hilarious and uplifting journey via their quirky mobile library.

As it journeys through Bempton, Bridlington, Hornsea, and Howden, the play explores a region barely noticed by the nation it feeds. The show celebrates the forgotten, the resilient and the wonderfully eccentric.

The show, bursting with original songs, was developed in partnership with the East Riding Mobile Library Service.

Marianne McNamara is Mikron’s personal artistic director.

She said: “Mikron is known for telling stories and this wonderful show with original music is crafted by Maeve Larkin as she observes the voices of a unique county and its people.

“It celebrates the importance of mobile libraries as sanctuaries, beacons of hope, public services that connect people and communities in a digital age where human connection is more important than ever.”

Mikron offers integrated audio description. This makes its theatre as accessible as possible as it strives to bring communities and culture together.

Mikron is celebrating its 54th year as a touring company. And it will be taking Top of the Wold to venues across the country via canal, river and road.

Fittingly this year, it is also toasting the 90th birthday of its vintage narrowboat (Tyseley).

The ‘pay as you feel’ approach is also aimed at making theatre more accessible.

The sole focus of the West Yorkshire company still is to bring professional theatre to unconventional spaces. It performs at over 130 different venues every year.

The places range from allotments to fish and chip shops, pubs, village greens and even the more conventional setting – theatres.

The creative team for this production includes Maeve Larkin, Robert Cooper, Sonum Batra and Marianne.
