THE SEVERN Valley Railway is urging people to volunteer their time to help keep its steam heritage alive.
The popular attraction is due to celebrate its 60th anniversary in 2025 and it wants as many people as possible to join in with the celebration. The Severn Valley Railway is a thriving heritage organisation where the most important moving parts are our volunteers
The SVR is far more than just a railway – it has two pubs, three gift shops, several museums, an archive and various food outlets.
The SVR repairs, refurbishes and paints its own locomotives, carriages, wagons, benches, signposts and even print our own tickets. And it will also cut all our own grass, paint our own fences and tender our own gardens.
A SVR spokesperson said: “If you are looking to build friendships, learn new skills and enjoy a host of new experiences then we can find a place to suit your interests and skills in one of the teams that make up our extensive family.”
Some of the roles require study, training and examinations that take months, or even years to master. Others just need enthusiasm and common sense where you can get started straight away.
Everyone will be made very welcome, and you’ll be helping to preserve an important part of Britain’s heritage. Many people make life-long friendships at the SVR, and find enjoyment, purpose and a deep satisfaction for a job well done.
Anyone wanting more information should fill out a volunteer enquiry form and the SVR will be in touch.
