CHILDREN from a Bewdley school have been celebrating the 25th anniversary of NSPCC’s Number Day, writes Caitlin Valle.
The youngsters from St Anne’s CofE Primary School dressed up in homemade number themed costumes and participated in a variety of maths-inspired fun activities, with staff also getting involved in the costuming.
St Anne’s has joined over 7,000 nurseries and schools who have taken part in the NSPCC’s Number Day 2025, with the money raised going on to support NSPCC services such as the Speak Out,
Stay Safe programme for local schools and Childline.
Jo Harvey, Headteacher of St Anne’s CofE Primary School said: “We adore celebrating Number Day, it’s one of our favourite days in the school calendar.
“This year, children have really embraced the ethos of the day with a variety of fun outfits, including football t-shirts with numbers, calculators and even some dice!
“These costumes spark conversations about numbers and maths, as well as inspiring a love of everything numerical.
“Number Day also allows us to talk about the amazing work of the NSPCC and provides an age-appropriate way of educating children and young people on how they have the right to grow up safe from abuse and who to turn to support.”
Celebrities from across the UK gave also been supporting the fundraiser, including TV presenter and renowned mathematician, Johnny Ball, who visited Reddam House School in Wokingham, to talk to children about the fun of maths.
At the same time, financial expert and TV personality Emmanuel Asquodo, attended Vange Primary School, in Basildon, to carry out workshops exploring the importance of learning maths at a young age.
Stephanie Coleman, NSPCC fundraiser and lead for Number Day said: “It will be a fantastic day at St Anne’s CofE Primary School and we’re incredibly grateful to all the teachers and all the children for making our 25th Number Day birthday extras special.
“Number Day provides a great opportunity for all children to explore their love of maths.
“It’s always great to see how the day is celebrated, and we hope lots of schools and nurseries around Worcestershire sign up to our incredible day of learning, play and fundraising.
“Every pound raised will go a long way to help children and young people.”
