FOOTBALL - Kidderminster Harriers go top with Rushall win

Tristan Harris 23 hours ago Updated: 23 hours ago

KIDDERMINSTER Harriers have gone top of the Vanarama National League North this afternoon after a 2-1 win away to Rushall Olympic.

Harriers took the lead through Ashley Hemmings in stoppage time at the end of the first half. His goal came on the back of a hat-trick last weekend.

Kidderminster then built on their lead in the second half with David Davis scoring in the 65th minute.

The home side got one back through Benbow on 77 minutes but Harriers held on for a crucial 2-1 victory.

Meanwhile in East Anglia, Kings Lynne were beating top-of-the-table Scunthorpe who started the day one point ahead of Kidderminster in the only guaranteed promotion hotseat.

Omotayo’s goal turned out to be the only one of the game which means promotion is now in Harriers’ hands.

Phil Brown’s team are top of the table on 86 points but are also level on points with Brackley Town in second. Brackley beat Oxford 1-0 in their fixture this afternoon.

Scunthorpe slip to third on 84 points, two points behind the front two.

It means if Harriers win their last two matches, they will be promoted as champions. Although, because of their plus 20 goal difference over Brackley, it might mathematically not even need that.

The run-in

Harriers host Hereford on Easter Monday, while Brackley travel to Leamington and Scunthorpe United host Peterborough Sports.

Then on the final day – next Saturday, April 26, Kidderminster travel away to Southport, Brackley host Farsley Celtic and Scunthorpe go away to Hereford.

But, as Brown said in his post-match interview last weekend, Harriers will be taking it ‘one game at a time’.
