THE COMMUNITY Cafe at Wolverley Memorial Hall is offering a special menu next week to commemorate the 80th anniversary of VE Day.
The cafe will also be decked out in red, white and blue and there will be a display of Second World War memorabilia showing how civilians contributed to the war effort.
Local historian Mike Webster has loaned the community cafe part of his collection to display during the week.
Kate Mellar, the cafe manager, said: “We have copies of many of the original posters produced at the time, for instance those promoting the women’s land army, how to keep yourself safe and how to eat healthily during the massive food shortages.
“Everyone is welcome to pop in and have a look.
“There will be home made Victory sponge cake based on a recipe used during the war years and a range of traditional finger sandwiches including cucumber ones of course.”
Wolverley Memorial Community Cafe is open from 10.30am to 3.30pm from Tuesdays to Fridays. The special menu will be available from May 6 to 9.
