WEATHER WARNING - Thunderstorms forecast across Worcestershire with flooding possible

Sonny Rackham 12th May, 2025

A YELLOW weather warning has been issued for thunderstorms which could lead to flooding in Worcestershire today (Monday, May 12).

The warning which covers the Midlands, Wales, west of England, London and the south East could lead to adverse weather from 12 noon to 10pm, the Met Office has said.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop this afternoon, leading to up to 50mm (1.9in) of rain within a couple of hours in some places, with a possibility of delays and some cancellations of public transport services.

Whilst these will be fairly fast-moving, rain may be intense for short periods of time. Where rain is intense in other parts, 20-30 mm of precipitation is expected in less than an hour.

Lightning, hail and gusty winds will be additional hazards.

The Met Office has also warned of slight chances of power cuts and impacts to other services, as well as damage to buildings through floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds.

Forecast

Showers began drifting in from the south in the early hours of this morning with this expected to continue throughout the afternoon and into early evening.

Temperatures are to remain relatively high throughout the day, boasting highs of 22C in parts of Worcestershire.

The skies over Worcestershire are expected to begin clearing up later in the day, making way for some sunshine from around 5pm until sunset.
