Police issue warning to drivers after car thefts in Kidderminster, Blakedown and Cookley

Tristan Harris 4th Jun, 2025

POLICE in Kidderminster, Blakedown and Cookley are warning motorists to be on their guard after a number of vehicle thefts in the areas in the past few days.

Around midnight on Monday, a blue Ford Ranger Raptor was stolen from Habberley Lane, Kidderminster.

The suspects were seen arriving and leaving the area in an Audi.

Between 11pm on Sunday and 8am on Monday, a black Nissan Juke was stolen from Borrington Road in Kidderminster.

A white Smart Car convertible with a red roof – a very distinctive vehicle – was taken from Lionfields Road in Cookley between 4pm on Monday and 6.30am on Tuesday.

And, in another incident between 4pm on Monday and 6.30am on Tuesday, Kidderminster Police Safer Neighbourhood Team received reports of a person acting suspiciously in Forge Lane, Blakedown.

A blue Ford Kuga with two men in the car was seen approaching the property and a person had a device in their hand, holding it up towards the property.

A resident was concerned the people in the car may have been looking to target keyless vehicles by attempting to capture keyless car fob signals.

Car crime prevention

Following the incidents, officers have urged people to remain vigilant – ensuring cars are always locked when being left unattended for any amount of time.

It is also suggested drivers use steering locks and, if they have keyless entry cars, keep the fobs in a Faraday pouch or metal tin so the signal cannot be captured by opportunist thieves.

Officers from Kidderminster Police Safer Neighbourhood Team have also urged witnesses or anyone with information or doorbell footage to call them on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Residents are also asked to report any suspicious behaviour in their area by calling 101 or 999 if a crime is in progress.
