A FRIENDLY golfing bash has helped raise a mega sum for Acorns Children’s Hospice.

Enthusiastic teams of golfers and business volunteers gathered at Solihull’s Olton Golf Club recently to support a charity event which raised £26,526.77 for the hospice.

The hospice, which is headquartered in Wythall, provides specialist palliative care for life limited and life threatened children and their families.

The event, now in its fourth year, brought together 21 teams from across Solihull, Birmingham and Warwickshire.

Local golfing professional and one of the main event coordinators, Ady Wheatcroft, also challenged the players to complete technical tricks whilst they played 18 holes of golf.

Organised by the Any Excuse for Golf Society (AEFGS), all proceeds raised came from team entry fees, an auction and the sale of refreshments with the process managed by a group of volunteers representing the businesses supporting and sponsoring the event.

Founder of the AEFGS and Partner at Meridian Private Client, Mark Abrol, said: “We have worked closely with Acorns Children’s Hospice for many years now and it is great to understand, and to see, how the funds raised from events can directly benefit families.”

Mark also praised and thanked the events sponsors and volunteers who helped make the event possible and smooth sailing.

Main sponsors included Meridian Private Client Solicitors Limited, Henwood Court Financial Planning, No5 Barristers’ Chambers, Morgan and Company Solicitors and Probate Solicitors Limited (PSL).

Volunteer support came mostly from volunteers from Meridian, Probate Solicitors Limited (PSL) and Henwood Court Financial Planning who baked cakes and sold refreshments.

Silhill Brewery and Mercia Distillery also joined the fun with golfers enjoying a Trackman experience from Clubs Away also.

Local photographer, Nick Browning, provided another ‘fantastic’ record of the day and was thanked for his continued support of the event.

Chairman of Trustees at Acorns Children’s Hospice, Mark Hopton, said: “Many families turn to Acorns in times of difficulty and it’s through the generosity of businesses and individuals supporting events such as these that we can continue to provide specialist, palliative care services to babies, children, young people and their families throughout the region.”
