BROMSGROVE and Redditch town centres are about to get greener as new electric charging spaces have been installed.
The two councils have partnered with Zest to bring 120 chargers across the two towns, making it easier for drivers without chargers to conveniently recharge their vehicles close to home or on the go.
The deployment is part of a £2.1million investment which will mean Zest provide, operate, and maintain the chargers, with no costs for the councils, over the next 15 to 20 years.
In Bromsgrove, the chargers are based in Stoke Road, Aston Fields and in Redditch they are at the car park in Astwood Bank.
Bromsgrove District Council leader, Coun Karen May, said: “It is one of our goals to make the town as accessible to as many people as possible, providing an increased number of electric vehicle chargers is part of this. Bromsgrove has so much to offer – being able to charge your car at a reasonable cost is another thing to add to the list.
“We’re pleased to have partnered with Zest to unlock these facilities for our residents.”
Coun Sharon Harvey, leader of Redditch Borough Council, added: “We take our climate goals seriously. Providing an increased number of electric vehicle chargers is an important step towards making our goals achievable.”
CEO at Zest, Robin Heap, said: “Expanding charging networks ahead of demand is key to accelerating the transition to electric vehicles.
“Zest is proud to partner with Bromsgrove District Council in its mission to cut carbon emissions across all modes of transport.
“With the first Zest charging spaces now in operation, we’re making reliable public EV charging more accessible for the whole community.”
