A NEW St Richard’s Hospice superstore is set to open in Stourport at 10am on Saturday, July 5, writes Jeanna Karcz.
The new shop, which is currently accepting donations to raise cash for the cause and looking for volunteers, will open its doors at Tannery Retail Park, Lombard Street.
The store will be accepting donations of pre-loved clothing, furniture, homeware, books and more. Volunteers are needed and may take up roles in serving customers at the till or prepping stock for sale.
The store will be open Monday to Saturday from 9am to 6pm, and on Sundays, from 10.30am to 4.30pm.
‘I owe them my life’
Stourport resident, David Bishop, who received care in the hospice’s In-Patient Unit earlier this year, is scheduled to cut the ribbon on the new store.
He said: “I was admitted to the hospice in December last year expected to die.
“Five weeks later I came out on crutches and I am here today.
“I still have hurdles to overcome, but my ‘never give up still I rise’ attitude means the story isn’t closed just yet.
“St Richard’s is a special place, with a team of special people, that survives mostly on donations.
“I owe them my life”.
Dan Corns, associate director of retail operations for St Richard’s, said: “We have been hard at work getting the store ready to open and are really looking forward to welcoming in customers and donors to enjoy the new retail space.
“It’s set to play an important role in generating the funds we need to provide our specialist care, at a challenging time for hospice charities across the country.
“Our grateful thanks to everyone involved in getting the store ready to open, including all our brilliant volunteers.”
St Richard’s Hospice has 18 total shops across Worcestershire, with a retail income of £3million annually, all of which goes toward supporting patients and their loved ones.
St Richard’s Hospice is an independent charity providing free, expert care for adults with incurable illnesses, also supporting their loved ones and carers, of which the hospice team annually supports more than 3,100 people.
Including patient care and other necessary support services, it will cost £12million for the hospice to be ran this year.
