THERE will be another chance to ride the famous steam locomotive ‘The Flying Scotsman’ after it extended its stay on the Severn Valley Railway by a day, writes Charlie Canning.

The last time the tickets went on sale for the historic train, Locomotive 60103, they sold out within three minutes.

But now – as well as running from Friday, July 25, to Sunday, July 27, it will also run on the Monday, July 28.

SVR managing director Jonathan ‘Gus’ Dunster said: “It’s true that ‘Flying Scotsman’ doesn’t often run on heritage lines, and we are especially pleased that it will be with us, in our 60th anniversary year, to haul this season’s first full-line service on Friday, July 25, and staying with us for an additional three more days.”

Following the devastating landslip on Mor Brook bridge, repairs have been successful to the bridge allowing for the entirety of the 16 mile line to be in place for the distinguished locomotive

Gus added: “We are incredibly grateful to the National Railway Museum and Northern Steam Operations Limited for agreeing to this extension to 60103’s stay with us.

“Clearly, SVR supporters are hugely keen to travel behind this world-famous loco, and we want as many people as possible to be able to do that at the Severn Valley Railway.

There will be three additional steam hauled services to fans, including a double header, plus a further heritage diesel hauled service adding to the phenomenal experience the ‘Flying Scotsman’ has to offer as part of the Swinging Sixties event.

With the extra day of services on Monday, July 28, the ‘Flying Scotsman’ will haul three return trips from Kidderminster to Bridgnorth, with no other services running that day.

The Severn Valley Railway has confirmed there will be an additional 1,000 tickets for the Flying Scotsman – some standard and some first lass and the opportunity to travel in an elegant observation saloon.

‘They go on sale from 10am tomorrow (Tuesday, July 8). Visit: svr.co.uk for more information and to book.
