A KIDDERMINSTER church is celebrating six months since its launch with an American-themed week of community events and activities.
Grace Church will bring a ‘Slice of Mississippi’ to its venue during the first week of the school summer holidays – from July 21 to 27.
Among the highlights of the ‘American Adventure Week’ at the church on Greatfield Road, near Brinton Park, are an Old West themed children’s holiday club for primary school-aged children, a 1960s afternoon for older adults, a Thursday Night Hoedown with dancing and live music, a Youth Night featuring English Pick ‘N’ Mix and American Candy.
The week will culminate in a completely free Wild West barbecue party for all ages (featuring a bucking bronco) on the afternoon of Saturday, July 26.
To add an extra authentic American flavour to the week, the volunteers at Grace Church Kidderminster are being joined by 11 adults from their partner church in Mississippi who are jetting in to help for the week.
Lead Pastor Duncan Cobbett said: “Mississippi is known as the ‘Hospitality State’ so we are aiming to bring that warmth of welcome all the way from the Deep South to Wyre Forest.
“We truly hope that this week of events will be a real blessing to the local community.”
Grace Church has been a hive of activity over the past six months with the church already setting up regular groups for tots, ‘Kiddz’, youth and older adults. There are also opportunities for anyone to come and explore faith for themselves.
Pastor Cobbett added: “One of the highlights of the past six months has been welcoming people through our doors who have never been to church before (or for a very long time) and seeing people find true hope and meaning as they meet Jesus.
“We are looking forward to once again opening wide our doors and inviting people in from the local community during American Adventure week.”
