Alvechurch arts exhibition to showcase award-winning paintings

AN ANNUAL exhibition by members of two art groups in Alvechurch will take place from Thursday to Saturday, July 24 to 26, writes Rafi Singh.

The event, at Alvechurch Village Hall, will feature 100 paintings created over the past 12 months by artists which attend the groups. They meet at the village hall.

It comes after an art competition with the theme ‘Summer Holidays’ was run by Kamal Khan of Springview Care Ltd (Grosvenor House and Tutnall Hall nursing homes).

The winners of the contest were announced at Tutnall Hall’s annual summer fete on Saturday with prizes handed out by Bromsgrove MP Bradley Thomas.

The groups are led by Droitwich based art teacher, Pam McGregor, who said: “As always, we are very grateful to Kamal for continuing to support the groups, sponsor the competitions and challenge the artists to produce something new, vibrant and exciting.

“His competition subjects encourage the artists to try a new style or subject and the results are always amazing, so much so I think visitors to the exhibition may be surprised but impressed with the results, even of those that didn’t make the ‘short list’.”

This is the 10th year that Kamal has sponsored the competition and the winning paintings will be displayed in one of his nursing homes, where the residents will see them, which will hopefully remind them of holidays in the past and encourage them to talk about them to each other and to the staff.

The exhibition, which is free to attend and will also include paintings from previous years and art produced as part of exercises set by Pam during the year, will run from 10am to 6pm on Friday and Saturday and 10am to 5pm on Sunday.

There will be refreshments available each day and extra craft stands on Saturday.

Original works created by the artists will be available at reasonable prices.
