THE WORLD famous British steam locomotive The Flying Scotsman will receive a musical welcome from Kidderminster Male Choir during its guest appearance on the Severn Valley Railway.

The ‘Men in Red’ will entertain crowds with a hour-long concert, free of charge.

The group will perform at 1.30pm on Saturday, July 26, on the Kidderminster Station concourse, as part of the railway’s Swingin’ Sixties weekend.

Classics from The Beatles will be the pinnacle of their programme, which also features Glen Miller’s Chatannooga Choo Choo, a vastly popular train-themed song.

A Kidderminster Male Choir spokesperson said “We are honoured to be taking part in this special weekend, which celebrates the 60th anniversary of the presentation of the SVR line.”

The concert is free, but the choir will have collecting buckets to raise cash for charities and good causes, such as KEMP Hospice.

The Flying Scotsman will herald the re-opening of the full 16-mile Kidderminster to Bridgnorth line on July 25, following an embankment collapse earlier this year.

There will be more trips over the weekend.

Initially, the Flying Scotsman, Locomotive 60103, was just going to run from Friday to Sunday, July 25 to 27 but an extra day has been added, and it will now also run on Monday, July 28.
