THE company that operates trains through Kidderminster railway station is to go into public ownership in February 2026.
West Midlands Trains (WMT), which runs services across the region, will become part of Great British Railways.
This is the company set up by the government to oversee the rail system in England, Wales and Scotland.
“As we transition to a publicly owned railway, our focus remains on delivering an outstanding service for our passengers,” said Ian McConnell, managing director of WMT.
He added that the company was committed to ensuring a smooth transition to public ownership. The WMT operates a network which stretches from Liverpool to London via the West Midlands region.
