KIDDERMINSTER Male Choir set to help the town’s Royal British Legion branch to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Victory over Japan Day (VJ Day), writes Mia Sen-Gupta.
On Friday, August 15, the group will be performing at 6pm in the Parish Church of St Mary’s, Churchfields, to honour the important milestone of when Imperial Japan surrendered in the Second World War, effectively marking the unofficial ending of the conflict.
A service of remembrance and wreath laying will take place, followed by an hour-long performance by the choir, where attendees will hear a variety of hymns, such as ‘For the Fallen’ and ‘Let There be Peace on Earth’. There will also be Elvis Presley’s ‘An American Trilogy’ and even some Paul Simon classics.
A spokesman for the choir told the Standard: “We are honoured to support the Royal British Legion and to mark this momentous anniversary in our town.
“All are welcome to what will be a respectful commemoration and, through the power of song, both a tribute to all those who perished and hope for the future.”
