ALEX Penny scored a crucial late equaliser as Kidderminster Harriers salvaged a 1-1 home draw against Oxford City, writes Neil Gordon.

Harriers failed to trouble City in a disappointing first-half and fell behind to Jack Bearne’s strike before Penny grabbed a lifeline late on at Aggborough.

The draw sees Kidderminster maintain their unbeaten start to the season although Harriers have dropped to ninth in the National League North table.

Adam Murray made five changes to the Harriers team which drew 1-1 with Worksop Town.

Kidderminster midfielder Luke Spokes blasted high over the bar early on and Penny headed wide from a corner late on, in a drab first-half performance from Harriers.

And the Reds fell behind on 36 minutes when Bearne ran on to a great pass and fired home.

The warning signs were already there for Harriers when Josh Ashby’s free-kick smacked off the woodwork and Isaac Westendorf fired across goal.

After the interval David Davis forced visiting goalkeeper Sam Lewis to make his first save of the night on the hour mark from a quickly taken free-kick.

The Reds improved when Amari Morgan-Smith came on and a spell of intense pressure began which resulted in Penny blasting home an equaliser from a corner on 81 minutes.

And Harriers searched for a winner while Oxford continued to threaten but it wasn’t to be and a frustrated Murray was booked as the game ended with two more dropped points.

Kidderminster are next in action against AFC Fylde on Saturday, August 23 with kick-off 3pm at Mill Farm.
