PHIL Brown admits he would ‘sack himself’ if he was the chairman after Kidderminster Harriers lost 1-0 to Guiseley in the FA Cup.

A late goal from Will Longbottom ended Kidderminster’s FA Cup journey at the Fourth Round Qualifying stage at Aggborough Stadium.

Brown admits the club’s recent form, which has seen his side fail to win any of their last five league matches, would worry him if he were the chairman at Harriers.

Brown said: “On current form I’m not good enough, if I was my chairman I’d be thinking about changing the manager.

“Whether he’s thinking that way or not I don’t know. At some stage the players have to take responsibility, I know I am, it’s my head on the chopping block.

“I’ve never walked away from a fight in my life but I know what it looks like as a chairman and an owner, they’re looking at the manager and asking ‘is he making the right decisions?’

“We didn’t score a goal and how we’ve not scored a goal I don’t know.

“To be brutally honest, I need to apologise for my performance, my performance was sub-standard from what the fans are expecting.

“They’re expecting people to wear the shirt with pride and I’m picking people who clearly don’t wear the shirt with pride, they seem to be flying their own flag, that’s not good enough.

“The apology is to the fans who turned up, the standard of play, the standard of finishing and the standard of desire to try and win a game of football is not good enough.

“There’s not enough [players] out there wearing the shirt with pride. If I was a player, I’d be embarrassed about the performance in the first half. I’d be embarrassed to pick my wages up.”

Harriers spurned a golden chance to take the lead on 33 minutes when Ashley Hemmings saw his tame penalty saved by Guiseley goalkeeper Joe Cracknell.

And after missing a spate of chances throughout, Guiseley punished Harriers on 84 minutes as John Lufudu burst into the box and squared the ball to Longbottom who tapped home at the back post.

The Northern Premier League Premier side, who play one level below Harriers, almost doubled their lead in injury time only for Christian Dibble to make a crucial save.

Harriers failed to carve out a clear-cut chance in the remaining minutes on a disappointing afternoon for Brown’s men.

Kidderminster are next in action away at Needham Market on Saturday, October 19 with kick-off at 3pm at Bloomfields.
