A COMMUNITY transport charity has been praised for its services supporting elderly and disabled people across Wyre Forest.

Community Transport Wyre Forest has been awarded £500 by Worcestershire County Council deputy leader and district council leader Coun Marcus Hart.

He said the donation, from his County Council Divisional Fund, was in recognition of the outstanding serviced provided to people who cant access transport.

Coun Hart added: “This door-to-door bookable transport is a lifeline to so many people enabling them to remain independent, participate in their communities and access essential public services.

“I applaud the dedicated staff and army of volunteers who provide these services every weekday and I am delighted to be able to reiterate my support for the vital role they play during this national Community Transport Week.”

The charity’s volunteers drive clients to medical appointments and social activities.

In the space of four months, the charity has made 15,641 journeys and shown a social value of over £500,000 in reduced health costs.

Trudi Elliott, chair of trustees, said: “The charity relies heavily on grants, donations sponsorship and fundraising to maintain and develop its services and we are extremely grateful to Coun Hart for his support.”
