Kidderminster Choral Society set to take centre stage at revamped Town Hall

Tristan Harris 8th Nov, 2025

KIDDERMINSTER Choral Society will make its long-awaited return to the town hall on November 29.

The venue officially reopens after an extensive three-year refurbishment.

To mark the society’s first performance back, it will present a powerful and dramatic programme featuring Mozart’s Requiem and Haydn’s Nelson Mass – two masterpieces by two of the greatest composers of the classical era.

The concert will be conducted by Geoffrey Weaver, Musical Director of Kidderminster Choral Society, and there will be accompaniment from the Elgar Sinfonia.

The performance will also feature a distinguished line-up of professional soloists: Gemma King (soprano), Rachel Roper (mezzo-soprano), Dominic Bevan (tenor) and Stuart Orme (bass) with Marcus Huxley accompanying on organ.

Caroline Lee, Chair of Kidderminster Choral Society, said: “Returning to Kidderminster Town Hall after its magnificent refurbishment is incredibly special for us.

“This building has been our musical home for generations and we are thrilled to once again fill it with the sound of live choral music.

“The newly restored acoustics and surroundings will make this performance of Mozart’s Requiem and Haydn’s Nelson Mass a truly memorable experience for both performers and audience alike.”

The concert marks not only a return to the society’s historic home but also a celebration of the Kidderminster Town Hall’s renewal as a vibrant centre for the arts and community events.

The extensive refurbishment has transformed this much-loved Grade II listed building, enhancing its historic features while upgrading its facilities to modern standards.

Improvements include the restoration of the beautiful main hall, enhanced acoustics, new seating and lighting, improved accessibility, and the refurbishment of the historic William Hillorgan, which will once again take pride of place in performances at the town hall.

Caroline added: “Don’t miss this momentous evening of music as Kidderminster Choral Society brings two of the greatest choral works ever written to life in their beautifully restored home.”

Kidderminster Choral Society has a distinguished history of choral music performance after being founded in 1899.

Among its most notable past presidents have been Sir Edward Elgar, reflecting the society’s deep and enduring connection to the region’s rich musical heritage.

Today, the society continues to uphold its proud legacy, performing major works from the classical repertoire and promoting choral excellence within Kidderminster and further afield.
