A TEENAGER who ran off from Kidderminster station after being challenged by police has been arrested on suspicion of having a weapon.
As part of Operation Sceptre, which runs this week to address knife crime, officers from West Mercia Police joined colleagues from British Transport Police and West Midlands Police at Kidderminster train station on Tuesday morning (November 18).
During the operation a 17-year-old boy ran off from the station building after being challenged as he was about to board the train.
He was promptly arrested nearby on suspicion of being in possession of an offensive weapon and remains in police custody.
The joint operation aimed to engage with commuters, listen to their concerns and identify those who may be carrying knives into the town.
Senior PCSO Andrew Stevens, who led the operation, said: “This morning was another great opportunity for us to have an open and honest conversation around any concerns people may have around knife crime, and what we are doing to tackle it in our town.”
“I hope this morning’s operation sends a clear message that those who choose to carry knives are not welcome in our community.
“Knife crime is a year-round priority; operations like this take place throughout the year and without warning”.
