Redditch police officers help settle homeless man into new home with help of Bromsgrove charity

REDDITCH new town centre team officers have helped give a vulnerable man a fresh start in his life with thanks to support from one of the forces charity partners.

The homeless person has recently been left with a disability because of an assault, but police have helped to secure him a flat to live in.

However, the flat was completely empty and with no money available. Officers approached the New Starts charity in Bromsgrove for help.

New Starts were happy to come to his aid, and on Saturday, officers arranged to collect and drop off some furniture for him including a sofa, bed, tables, rug and a chest of drawers as well as some bedding to give him a fresh chance in his life.

Police Constable Danielle Merry, of the Redditch town centre team, said: “We were more than happy to work with this charity to give a vulnerable man a fresh start in life.

“Police are often the first to respond to issues with homeless people and we will always work with them and multiple agencies to get them the support they need.

“Homeless people can be left with little choice than to turn to criminality when they are down on their luck so offering them the opportunity to start afresh, rather than just being moved on, is always preferable in these situations wherever we can.”
