THE WYRE Forest Community Choir which is bringing people together through song is appealing for more people to join its ranks.
The group gets together in The Valley Suite, Severn Valley Railway, from 7.30pm to 9pm every Monday evening.
The choir was launched in October to bring people together through a shared enjoyment of singing. It has become a place where people come to connect, as well as sing.
As well as more singers, Wyre Forest Community Choir is hoping to find a piano or keyboard player who lives locally to provide the music.
The choir’s ethos is: ‘No experience is necessary, enthusiasm is enough’.
Musical Director David Barclay said: “There is no pressure here at all.
“You do not have to read music, you are never asked to sing on your own, and nobody is judging.
“We sing because it feels good to do it together.”
Variety of members
That approach has struck a chord locally and members come from across the Wyre Forest and surrounding areas.
Some have sung in choirs for years, others have not sung in a group since school and some had never sung with others before joining.
They all share a desire to be part of something positive and welcoming.
The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, with music taught at a comfortable pace and plenty of encouragement.
Halfway through the evening there is a short break for a drink and a chat which many members really look forward to.
The choir works on a varied repertoire throughout the year, from contemporary songs and folk music to more traditional choral pieces and seasonal favourites.
Music is provided and learning happens together, helping people grow in confidence as well as musical ability.
Wyre Forest Community Choir is run as a not-for-profit organisation, with all income used to support its aims.
New members are invited to attend their first two rehearsals free of charge, giving them the chance to experience the choir before committing.
A modest monthly subscription then helps cover music and running costs with flexibility available where needed.
Free parking is available at the Severn Valley Railway.
