THE CHARITY Partner for this year’s Wythall and Hollywood Fun Run has been announced, writes Mia Whitehouse.
The popular event organised by Worcestershire County Council is set to take place on Saturday, June 22, and will raise funds for Acorns Children’s Hospice.
The fun run gives participants the chance to take on 5k, 10k or Families on Track relay race.
Every year Acorns cares for more than 780 children who have been diagnosed with a life limiting or threatening condition and helps around 1,000 families, including those who are bereaved.
Sophie Boreham, Acorns Children’s Hospice’s events manager, said:
“We’re thrilled to be the charity partner for this year’s event, which will see a welcome spotlight on our life-changing care for seriously ill children and their families across our region.
“The timing couldn’t be better as the fun run coincides with national Children’s Hospice Week – from June 16 to 22 – when all eyes will be on children’s hospices and the vital care they provide.”
She added events like this were so important as the charity relied on community support to raise the majority of the funds needed to continue its care.
“Help can’t wait for these families. So it would be amazing if anyone signing up could join ‘Team Acorns’ and raise crucial funds that will enable us to continue to be there for families caring for children with life limiting and life-threatening conditions when they need us most.”
Olympic medalist Steve Cram, who is endorsing the fun run, said:
“I visited Acorns hospice last year and it was amazing to find out more about the truly phenomenal work that goes on there, and to meet the team and some of the amazing children that benefit from their care.
“The work Acorns does makes such a difference to children and young people and their families in this area. If you need an extra incentive to get running this summer, fundraising for this charity is a very good reason.”
Dr Lisa McNally, Director of Public Health for Worcestershire County Council, said:
“Acorns is a charity that means a lot to many people in the West Midlands, and I’m delighted we can come together to help make a difference.”
Those who sign up will receive a running vest, training support, a fundraising pack, access to a private Whatsapp group, and a medal and tote bag for finishers.
