OVER 1000 young people across the county will gather for a popular sporting event next week.
The Worcestershire Spring School Games makes its return on Thursday April 10, welcoming 1014 children and young people for a day of sports and physical activity.
Organised by Active Herefordshire and Worcestershire, and a dedicated network of School Games Organisers, the event is all about creating lasting change for young people to have a positive relationship with sport and physical activity throughout their lives.
The event will feature activities such as athletics, infant agility, pan-disability football, team building and netball.
Stephen Brewster, Active Herefordshire and Worcestershire CEO, said: “We are incredibly proud of the impact that these events have on children and young people across the county.
“The Spring School Games event is a judgement free, safe zone to try new sports and activities, and hopefully leave with newfound passion.
“A lot of hard work goes into making these events possible, so we cannot wait for the big day.”
The event will also feature plenty on offer in our School Games Village, an allocated area with activities and games such as bhangra dance, seated-volleyball, pickleball, and so much more.
A total of 107 young people will also be attending the event as Young Leaders, supporting with activities on the day and acting as champions and supporters for those taking part.
Tracey Freer, School Games organiser for North Worcestershire, said: “We are excited to welcome nearly 60 schools and over 1,000 young people to our Worcestershire Spring School Games – one of our flagship events for 2025.
“We hope this event will provide all young people, both participants and young leaders, involved, with a positive experience of sport and physical activity, that will not only live for a long time in their memories but also inspire them to stay active for life”.
The event is once again sponsored by AJB Sports in Education, a local organisation known for their work in primary schools, offering PE provision, CPD, sports clubs and wrap-around care.
They work with schools and professional sports clubs with their Active Minds health education school programme, and pre-school sports through AJB Fundamentals.
The School Games is a programme funded by Sport England and The National Lottery, which puts physical activity and school sport at the heart of schools, providing young people with the opportunity to learn through physical activity and competition to achieve their personal best.
