Bewdley Bridge reopens after two years of work

Kidderminster Editorial 10th Aug, 2025

Bewdley Bridge re-opened last Friday for two-way traffic after two years of work.

It comes after the Environment Agency revealed that the multi-million scheme to protect the town from flooding was nearing completion.

A spokesperson said: “Our contractors have been working hard to enable the Kidderminster Road and Bewdley Bridge to open to two-way traffic.”

The final piece in the jigsaw was the dry weather which enabled workers to lay specialist coloured tar, enabling the bridge to re-open later that day.

Stourport Road will remain closed into September, with the formal opening of the flood scheme currently being planned for early September.

Glass panelling has been installed along the flood wall on the banks of the River Severn, bring the wall up to its full height.
