TWO YOUNGSTERS from Bewdley have achieved a silver blue peter badge for their efforts on raising cash for Birmingham Childrens Hospital.

Brothers, George who is eight and Alfie Andrews who is six had an original target of £100 for the hospital, amazingly the pair have raised over £800.

George originally wanted to donate some of his teddies, but found out he was unable to donate them to the hospital.

He then came up with other ways to help children in the hospital, by Table top sales, Tombola, Raffle, giving free hugs in local towns using a Pikachu and chicken outfit.

There is currently a raffle taking place which is set to be drawn on Christmas Eve – local businesses have donated prizes for the raffle.

Carl and Shane from The Railway Bell pub in Kidderminster, James at Merchants Chippy in Bewdley, and the George Hotel in Bewdley are some of those donating.

George and Alfies Father Mike Andrews said: “Im incredibly proud of George wanting to raise money for Birmingham Childrens hospital, after he learnt that some – if not all of the children won’t be home for Christmas to spend with their families.

“This has been part of Georges internal drive and main motivation for reaching and exceeding his initial goal, its been warming to see his brother Alfie supporting and encouraging him all the way.

“They both have remained dedicated even against the wet weather and long days.

“They already have ideas for next year to further support the childrens hospital and I am very proud of them both.”

George added: “Im looking forward to delivering all the prizes to the winners of the raffle, and seeing all the children smile in hospital.”
