Brave breast cancer survivors launch calendar to raise funds for charity which helped them

Kidderminster Editorial 6th Oct, 2024

A CHARITY calendar has been launched to raise funds for Ladies Fighting Breast Cancer.

The finished piece, the brainchild of brand and boudoir photographer Sarah Haywood, was unveiled at a launch party last Friday at The Rose and Crown in Portway ahead of October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Sarah, whose studio is in Studley, was inspired to create the joyful, fun and positive calendar, featuring 15 women who had all been affected by breast cancer and had been supported by the Bromsgrove-based charity.

Sarah said: “Ladies Fighting Breast Cancer does amazing things and offers so much support to people with a breast cancer diagnosis.

“There are so very many women who don’t even know of the resources and support available to them and LFBC works tirelessly to support as many with a breast cancer diagnosis as they can.”

Each month of the calendar is sponsored by women in business and other local business owners sponsored a gift bag providing treats for all the ladies who had a photo session.

The 15 models and the sponsors were from a variety of areas across the Midlands including Bromsgrove, Redditch, Astwood Bank, Stratford, Solihull, Birmingham, Kidderminster, Halesowen, Alcester and Worcester.

Sarah, who prides herself on helping business owners be confident in front of the camera, added: “I also make it my mission to inspire women to feel confident about how they look, through boudoir/creative portraiture photography so they feel more confident in how they look and empowered to be themselves.

“A lot of my clients are ladies, going through a divorce, self-harm, cancer or body dysmorphia, among other awful life experiences.

“I have worked for the last four months to create this calendar which I hope brings fun and joy with an inspirational message, to every home and office its hung in, in 2025, all whilst raising vital funds for this fabulous charity.”

Sarah knew breast cancer was around from a very young age, losing her grandmother to the disease. Then in her 20s, her aunt suffered breast cancer and a brain tumour and in her 30s, she learnt both her stepsisters had breast cancer.

“All have been so inspiring and are thankfully survivors of this awful disease.”

A total of 67 people attended the launch where the calendars were viewed for the first time and the fizz was flowing.

Sarah said: “The feedback I have had has been amazing.”

One of the models, Katrina, thanked Sarah for helping raise the funds for such a fantastic cause and for the way she had helped her on her mental journey about how she felt about herself post surgery.

“It was such a fun night.

“I never thought anyone could make me feel so comfortable, and Liss for making me feel wonderful in my makeup.

“Thanks also to all the amazing ladies who I met – it was an absolute pleasure to meet you all.”
