Celebration time for A level students across Kidderminster and Stourport

STUDENTS from across Wyre Forest have been celebrating the A level results today (Thursday) and securing places at university.

Holy Trinity School and Sixth Form, Kidderminster

All year 13 students at Kidderminster’s Holy Trinity School and Sixth Form who applied to university secured their preferred choices.

Among the stand-out performances were Miruna Butuc, who achieved and Distinction* in business, an A in psychology and a B in English Literature, gaining a place at the University of Nottingham to study Politics and International Relations.

Mehar Sammi achieved a Distinction* in IT, a Distinction in business and a B in psychology. She will now study occupational therapy at Worcester University.

Other university courses students are undertaking include management at Warwick, mechanical engineering at Plymouth, environmental studies at Nottingham, law at Wolverhampton, computer science at Brighton, games art and design at Plymouth, biomedical science at Worcester and psychology at Plymouth. One student is joining the Navy.




Head of sixth form, Tamsin Fisher, said: “I am very proud of this cohort who have worked incredibly hard, achieved some very impressive results and are going onto some equally impressive destinations.

“I am proud of the young adults that they have become and it has been a privilege to watch them flourish.


“I wish them all the best with their next steps.”

Headteacher Ian Williams added: “I am delighted at the outcomes achieved by our sixth form students and send my fullest congratulations to them all.

“I would like to thank the teachers, support staff and parents for their commitment in encouraging our talented students during their time with us.

“We look forward to supporting every student to a positive destination at university, college or in an apprenticeship, further training or employment.

“I know these young people will go on to achieve great things and make a positive contribution to society in the future.

“Well done and good luck to them all.”

Baxter College, Kidderminster

Hardworking students at Baxter College are celebrating their A-level and BTEC results today with 21 of 22 applying for university courses this year gaining their chosen destinations.

Headteacher Katie Beech said: “We are delighted for our students who have worked so hard to achieve their grades.

“We wish them all the very best as they embark on the next stage of their education or training at university, college or in apprenticeships.”

Emily Rowlands, taking childhood and educational studies at Kidderminster College, Maya Hipkiss, reading fine art at Manchester Metropolitan University and Anna Hughes, reading law at Birmingham City University. s

Top performers include Marc Bernabe, who will read medicine and surgery at Lancaster University, having achieved B grades in maths, chemistry, biology and his extended project qualification (EPQ).

With Bs in environmental science and geography and Cs in biology and her EPQ, plus a D in core maths, Isabelle Curry will read ecology and wildlife at the University of Cumbria.

Alfie Venencia achieved A* in criminology, Cs in history and his EPQ, a D in business, and a B in core maths to take him to the University of Derby to read football journalism.

Grade Bs in criminology and history, Ds in business and her EPQ, plus E in core maths, have earned Anna Hughes a place at Birmingham City University where she will read law.

Ashley-James Phillips is going to Wolverhampton University, where he will also read law, after gaining a B in criminology, and D*, D in business, while Darcie Carey achieved a D*, D in health and social care and a C in criminology to read occupational therapy at Worcester University.

Among the top performing subjects were dance, criminology, English literature and psychology.

 

Stourport High School and Sixth Form

Students at Stourport High also excelled as they found out their A-Level and BTEC results.

Highflyers included Chloe Finlow, who achieved three A A-levels, plus A in her extended project qualification (EPQ). She is looking forward to heading to Oxford University.

Maddox Lowe secured A*, A, B, Vadim Dyson got A*, A, C and Safina Watter gained grades A, A, B, plus an A in EPQ.

Alfie Barrett, Izzy Jones, Ruby Lawrence and Will Wheatley all achieved three distinctions and/or distinction*s.

Miracle Russello and Freya Bevan both secured three B grades and Sofia Rose achieved grades A, B and C.

While training and representing England Rugby, Harry Wright still managed to achieve 160 UCAS points which is equivalent to A*, A*, A.

All students who were targeting university in September achieved their places, with 71 percent of the sixth formers continuing with further education, while other students head off onto apprenticeships and the workplace.

Assistant headteacher and head of the sixth form college, Angele Parker, said: “We are incredibly proud of all our students.

“Completing two years of level three qualifications is an achievement in itself and each of our wonderful young people has overcome individual challenges along the way.

“It has been a privilege to be part of their journey and we know they are now fully equipped to face the exciting challenges ahead.

“This was a phenomenal achievement that is testament to his work ethic and commitment to everything he does.

“There were also many other notable individual performances and they should all be very proud.”

 

Matthew Carpenter, chief executive of the Severn Academies Educational Trust group that Baxter College and Stourport High School are members of, said: “I congratulate all our students on their results and I wish them well for the future.

“I would also like to thank the staff for their guidance and dedication and the families for their support.”
