A NEW networking event combining cocktails and conversations launched in Kidderminster last week.
The event for entrepreneurs and small business owners was started through a collaboration between Sail Mortgages’ Lisa Neath and Garrett Learning’s Wendy Garrett.
Cocktails and Connections, launched last Thursday (May 1) at The Futurist (Cinema) bar on Green Street. Self-employed people and small business owners came to engage in casual conversation and make connections while enjoying a delightful array of cocktails or mocktails.
In keeping with the cinema theme, there were a couple of movie quizzes as well as a pick-and-mix bag with popcorn.
Attendees said the atmosphere was like the first night of a new film being released with lots of laughter and great conversations with collaborations beginning to be made.
More on the way
The event was a great success and Wendy and Lisa are looking forward to putting the next one on.
Wendy said: “This is coming from a place of community spirit.
“This is for anyone who is self-employed and misses those after-work drinks or perhaps you work from home and miss your colleagues, this might be right for you.
“This will be an informal and relaxed environment with no awkward or formal pitches. Just a gathering of new friends chatting in a bar setting.”
She added The Futurist – which hosted the event – was a community social hub and another venue which needed support.
“You’ll be welcomed by friendly faces,” she said.
Lisa added: “It was lovely to see people chatting and laughing with those amazing cocktails in their hands, a networking event that wasn’t too networky.”
Sachia Mooney, the owner and creative lead of Futurist Cinema, said: “It was fantastic to welcome new faces through the doors of our independent cinema.
“Since taking on Kidderminster’s cinema last July, we’ve been exploring new ways to connect with our community beyond our regular screenings.
“It was a real pleasure to support this new venture, which added to the vibrant atmosphere we’ve been building and great to see our bar full of energy and conversation.”
