Council teams and Wyre Forest Rangers out at Habberley Valley urging dog owners to pick up after their pets

WYRE Forest District Council has been out and about, highlighting the importance of responsible dog ownership and people picking up after their four-legged friends.

The team kicked off the week at Habberley Valley Nature Reserve, teaming up with the Wyre Forest Rangers and the district council’s Street Scene team to tackle the mess left behind by careless dog owners.

The team thanked everyone who spoke to them at the reserve.

They added: “It was great to hear your views – and it’s clear these dog walkers care about the environment.”

But they also said dozens of discarded dog bags were found in bushes and on paths and more than 70 were picked up.

Wyre Forest District Council is urging dog owners to clean up after their pets and ‘bag it and bin it’ or take it home. “Pleases don’t litter the nature reserves,” they said.

And dog owners are being warned that if they get caught failing to pick up after their pets, they could face a £100 on-the-spot fine or a larger fine of up to £1,000 if the matter goes to court.

People are also being reminded that they can report owners whose dogs foul and it is not picked up.

The council’s street scene team will clean up the area and incidents will be investigated.
