PEOPLE thinking of taking on the Wythall and Hollywood Fun Run are ‘running out of time’ if they planned to use it as the culmination of a Couch to 5K course.
The event, on June 22, is now just 12 weeks away – the amount of time it takes to do some Couch to 5K courses so people need to start soon.
The fun run offers 5K and 10K distances, along with the Families on Track 5K relay race.
Couch to 5K is a running plan for absolute beginners who want to get more active but need some support to get started.
A new free Couch to 5K programme starts at Woodrush Community Hub, Shawhurst Lane, Wythall, on Wednesday, April 30, from 6pm to 6.45pm and on Wednesdays after that.
Participants do not need to book, they can just turn up.
For those wanting to find out more information about the event, there is an open evening at Woodrush Community Hub from 6.30pm to 7pm on Wednesday, April 9 or people can email: [email protected] or call 01564 820099.
What is the Couch to 5K?
Couch to 5K uses a mix of running and walking to gradually build up fitness and stamina.
Couch to 5K is ideal for people who have never run before. By the end, Couch to 5K-ers should be running 5K with confidence, no matter their starting fitness level or when you last exercised.
For those wanting to do the Couch to 5K by themselves, there are plenty of apps available that offer a free programme.
The official NHS Better Health Couch to 5K app allows runners to choose the voice of their instructor.
As well as Laura, the NHS nurse who became the original voice of the podcasts when they were launch, there is also Olympic medallist Steve Cram who is endorsing the Wythall and Hollywood Fun Run this Summer.
The NHS Couch to 5K app is available from the Google Play Store and Apple Store.
