Family's pride as Droitwich's festival gets ready to remember Rik

Tristan Harris 30th May, 2025

THE FAMILY of Rik Mayall have spoken of their pride that the comedy festival in his name is taking place.

And, to celebrate the festival’s launch on Saturday (May 31), they have released pictures of Rik in his hometown.

They said: “We are really touched Droitwich Spa has chosen to honour Rik with a comedy festival.

“His mum and dad would have been so proud and especially pleased the Norbury Theatre features prominently.

“This treasured local theatre gave Rik his first opportunity to act on stage and experience the joy of watching live performances.”

They added they were very grateful to the whole community and volunteers who had given their time and energy to make the festival happen.

“The packed programme of comedy and events looks brilliant.”

“It is great to see so many new and emerging acts taking part alongside established artists – we thank all the performers for their support.”

“Special thanks to the businesses and venues in Droitwich who have offered performance space.”

“Spending a week laughing is the perfect way to remember Rik.”

“We hope everyone involved – volunteers, organisers, performers, and audiences has a fantastic festival.”
