FIREFIGHTERS from Wyre Forests Station put out a potentially devastating blaze at Kidderminster’s Brinton Park this morning.
It is believed to have been caused by a discarded cigarette.
Wyre Forest District Council has thanked the firefighters for their prompt response.
In a statement it said: “A huge thank you to our local fire service for their swift response this morning to a fire at Brinton Park.
“Thankfully, the fire was brought under control quickly thanks to their incredible work.”
The council warned fires and barbecues were not permitted in any of its parks or nature reserves.
And it added: “Cigarettes must be fully extinguished and placed in a bin, not dropped on the ground.
“Not only is this littering, but it can easily cause dangerous fires, especially in dry hot weather.
“Let’s all do our part to protect our green spaces.”
