HoW College champions sustainability with the Big Christmas Switch Off

HEART of Worcestershire College (HoW College) is celebrating this month, after making huge strides in its ambitions towards Net Zero, recent analysis shows that they have reduced their carbon footprint by 46 per cent since 2020.

HoW College will be taking even more leading steps towards sustainability with its Big Christmas Switch Off, encouraging staff and students across its four campuses to “Switch It Off” over the festive break.

The initiative is part of the college’s broader commitment to achieving Net Zero carbon emissions by 2050, with an ambitious interim target of reducing emissions by 50 per cent by 2030. A target they are already well on track for.

During the Big Christmas Switch Off, all campuses will shut down non-essential equipment for the two-week holiday period.

Staff and students are urged to unplug PCs, turn off lights, empty and power down fridges, and deactivate workshop battery chargers.

Peter Robinson, vice principal said: “The Big Christmas Switch Off is a fantastic way to demonstrate how small changes can have a profound impact.

“We’re proud to lead by example and show others how they can start their own Net Zero journey. We are also happy to be a contact for local residents and businesses to share our tips and tricks further afield.”
